Why this petition matters

Started by Ellie Audette

Alright, I know that things have been going pretty crazy since Hasbro hasn’t given us confirmation about whether or not Equestria Girls will continue... well, this is because they don’t have the time due to working on a second season of Pony Life and the Generation 5 movie. I happen to know that those carnations of My Little Pony is not everyone’s cup of tea, the fandom is pretty much not what it used to be anymore. Check out my previous petition The New Adventures of Crystal Prep, which could possibly help get a brand NEW EG spin-off or some Season 3 specials with the Crystal Prep Academy Shadowbolts. This one is just about some serious issues to tackle in the spin-off, involving Mental Health Awareness and learning how to bring about it.

I can understand how some parents may feel about Derpy Hooves’ name and how she may somewhat have autism because of how her name sounds. You know, most names in My Little Pony are not common... so I don’t think this should be much of a problem with how two of the main characters in the spin-off (Sour Sweet and Sugarcoat) may be identified as to having certain disorders. Though Sour does not actually have a disorder but I can guarantee that the audience may mistaken her for having one. However, much like rest of the girls, she is trying to show how much she matured and is depressed about her past mistakes, feeling like no one understands her. Regardless of how Sour may have been kind of temperamental to begin with, she would embrace her sweet side more often behind that initial defensiveness. A bipolar disorder is still something to be aware of, but not many people seem to be accepting to it as to those who may have Asperger’s Syndrome.

At first, I didn't think this should be explicitly stated in the spin-off if it actually works but I thought about it for a bit. People with Aspergers would probably NOT “sugar-coat” what they have to say, which is pretty ironic because it pretty much differs from her name. Despite that, this is what makes Sugarcoat’s character fun and it could explain her personality a lot more than we realize. However, it all depends on what Hasbro would plan to do... If the EG Writers feel that she has Aspergers as well, then it would be a great bridge for the audience to acknowledge this part of Sugarcoat. Like I said before, bringing awareness counts as a learning opportunity too!
