Why this petition matters

Started by Quantum Warrior Alliance

The Black Community in the USA has shown remarkable restraint given the 400+ years of abuse, rape, murder and torture. The systematic brutally is crime against humanity. How did Black Community react then and now? For the overwhelmingly most part, like human beings. They stood up to fight for a country in WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam, both Gulf Wars (one authors of this petition has a friend of 15 years who fought a Gulf War I). They contributed Moon Race, arguably the biggest contribution to the 20th Century music is blues, jazz and rock'n'roll. All of which created a social shift we at still feeling today.

Martin Luther King, Jr, Majora Carter, Van Jones, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Sidney Poitier, Muhammad Ali and countless others epitomise  the noble spirit of Black Community why they deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.

Every aspect of Black Culture has been systematically attacked and even vilified,  add in the police brutality, the senseless murders of Rodney King and George Floyd, but there are countless others. This is the land of opportunity but only if you are male, white, Anglo-Saxon and Christian.

Let's look at what they've done for America, which has treated them so badly:

Let's start with Booker T. Washington (guess who's slave he was? Because slaves commonly took on the "master's" name.) who was born in slavery and went on found what is now Tuskegee University.  A near contemporary figure was W.E.B. Dubois, who also was an educator, author, his books are still required reading in many universities.

During the Civil War, Harriet Tubman not only ran the Underground Railroad, she was a healer, helped countless women and men to recover their dignity after 400+ years. Here's some of the ways slave owners tortured their slaves. There is no way to determine how many people were murdered by slave trade: estimate range from 5 million(totally ludicrously low in the authors opinion) to 150 million. Compare that to what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, Gypsies and homo-sexuals in 5 years, estimates are 6 million people.

The discrimination hasn't stopped, when one of the authors of this petition lived in Silicon Valley, California in 2000, their black friends were still being harassed for no reason than just being black: one friend and graduate student with Dr. Richard Feynman and was a respected consultant for Hewlett Packard, spent 3 hours in a police lock-up because he drove a BMW and was Oakland Raiders fan. Despite all the car docs being in his name, proof identity just for stopping to fill up for gas in Fresno where he was visiting is daughter.

There's an untold number of stories like that, every member of every Black Community in US has a story like that every single year of their lives. Let that sink in.

Let's look at contributions to social justice, science, art, and literature, music and  also took they only avenue open to "people of color": sports.

Science: A partial list from Wikipedia and another from Live Science.

Art and literature: an article in the New York Times style section highlights Protest Art since WWII. If a community is treated with justice why would they need to protest?

Music: Arguably you could say the only the contribution to world culture that the U.S. has produced, is jazz, blues an rock'n'roll which all originated in the Black Community.  The white community of the 50's needed an answer the rising popularity of African American music, which is they stuck gold with Elvis Presley.  Not to detract from Elvis's magnificent talent, but he was used to show that the white community had talent as well.

Like Brazil and Argentina where huge social justice issues abound, sports has historically been the only route of out the ghetto, favela and villa miseria.

United States of America started out as a bold experiment from the Jamestown Colony of the post-Elizabethan era, to the colonial period,  has always presented itself a land of "Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor" to Ellis Island. No country has set such lofty goals for itself, and no country has failed so miserably to live up those goals, this petition is about the Black Community but so many others notably the Native Americans suffered equally.

A country with a worse track record than the USA in term human rights, South Africa under apartheid system has shown the way: Truth and Reconciliation Commission, more about that here, here and here.

Any civilized society must be judged by how they treat their own- If we want a better world, sane world, just world it starts with signing this petition to right a wrong, a generational wrong, racial wrong, and moral wrong and an ethical wrong.

Let's move beyond race, nationality, religion, tribes and just be the human race. All lives matter, so let's start with black lives matter, if as a very global divided society we can solve that problem, we heal, our children heal.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Martin Luther King, Jr.
