Why this petition matters

After the arrest of peaceful protest leader and organizer Frank Nitty, MPD (Milwaukee Police Department) were given orders to open fire on peaceful protesters as they saw fit -- one would assume rioting, vandalizing, and senseless violence would be a legitimate reason.  On June 2nd, 2020 at 7:31pm MPD opened fire with tear gas, mace, and rubber bullets on peaceful protesters at the intersection at 6th and McKinley claiming that protesters threw a molotov cocktail (a bottle bomb).

According to a statement made by MPD to TMJ4 they claim that protesters threw said "bomb" at 8:08pm at uniformed officers who were also fully decked out in riot gear and practicing militarized force.

TMJ4 article with statement

We -- peaceful protesters -- all have multiple images, videos, and comparative images showing that:

  1. We were peaceful.
  2. We were attacked by militarized MPD BEFORE they claimed that said "bomb" was tossed and we were no longer at said location as they were forcing us Northbound.  By 8:08pm, peaceful protesters were headed Eastbound on Pleasant St. planning to go up Brady St. and end the gathering peacefully.
  3. The images that MPD released are not of a molotov cocktail, but instead of a plastic water bottle and perhaps an old water filtration system used for camping or water purifying on the go (it was a high of 90 degrees F while we were out there, it was most likely dropped by someone running after we had been tear gassed, maced, etc.)

Within our crowd we had children, minors, elderly, and physically handicapped people and yet with no remorse or hesitation, MPD opened fire and made arrests.  After the claim was made at 1:20am the following day, POTUS Donald Trump tweeted "Get tough police" to someone who stated that throwing a molotov was "lethal force" -- which it is -- but the fact is that we -- peaceful protestors -- did not toss a molotov cocktail.

OUR PLAN OF ACTION

Our First Amendment Right reads:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

The purpose of this petition is to gather a following and a support system for those who would like to participate in the filing of a civil rights lawsuit against Police Chief Alfonso Morales and the entire Milwaukee Police Department for violating the First Amendment right of the people peaceably to assemble.
