Ike Perlmutter, the Chairman of Marvel Entertainment, is a massive cog in the hateful machine that is the Trump administration. He is Donald Trump's largest donor. Donald Trump's bigoted views do not align with the values promoted by Marvel heroes, stars, or writers. A major focus of Marvel Comics for decades has been inclusion, acceptance, and progress. In theaters recently, Black Panther and Captain Marvel broke box office records, as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, films that feature these characters. Marvel's announced slate of films include Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the first superhero movie with an Asian lead; Black Widow, one of very few superhero movies to feature a female lead; The Eternals, with a large, diverse cast of men and women of different ethnicities; Thor: Love and Thunder, in which the mantle of Thor will be passed from Thor Odinson to Jane Foster, and in which Valkyrie will explore what will likely be the first LGBT+ relationship in superhero movies; and Blade, a superhero movie about a black hero, portrayed by a Muslim actor. The comics have been making conscious efforts to represent formerly unseen demographics in the medium as well, with characters like Kamala Khan and RiRi Williams. These strives in representation and acceptance go against everything Donald Trump, and by extension, Ike Perlmutter stand for. Disney and Marvel should think like the heroes they make stories about, and refuse to continue ignoring the hateful individual sitting on top of it all.
