Help the Gambos peopleof Angola get back their land and preserve their livelihoods and way of life.

The governement of Angola is failing in its duty to protect the rural communal lands used by the pastoralist Gambos people of Angola as grazing land for their livestock. Instead, the government has been diverting communinal grazing land for commercial farming without consulting the pastoralists who have occupied the lands for hundreds of years. Therefore, the taking away of this land, together with the impact of climate change which has caused the worst drought in the region in 38 years, has made their lives unbearable and with no access to food and water for the pastorlists and their families and children. The devastating drought has worsened the family’s livelihood situation who are now facing hunger and starvation.

  • We want the Angolan government to STOP granting communal grazing lands to commercial livestock farmers.
  • We want the government of Angola to ADOPT URGENT measures to address the water and food crisis in the Gambos.
  • The Angolan government ADOPT LONG TERM measures to increase the rural communities’ resilience to climate crisis.
  • The international community to provide financial and technical assistance to the government of Angola.
