Why this petition matters

Started by Rossa Mullin

Film In Cork, Cork City Council and Cork County Council along with leading figures in Cork’s film industry are calling on the people of Cork to protect this growing industry by signing this petition. This is as a result of Cork’s exclusion from a new four-year tax incentive called the 5% Regional Uplift which puts the region at a distinct disadvantage.

Cork’s film industry is calling on the government to act and protect Cork’s growing creative sector by providing a Cork Regional Support Fund to offset the major disadvantage facing the region over the coming years.

Approval from the European Commission was required in order to introduce the 5% Regional Uplift in Ireland. The government selected a mechanism known as “RAGS” (Regional Aid Guidelines), a complex formula which is not specific to film or television production which resulted in the illogical exclusion of the Cork region from availing of the new tax incentive.

As a result of this exclusion, the region will struggle to support any production, resulting in a loss of growth and employment within the industry in Cork and potentially reverse much of the investment and great work that has been done over the last number of years.

We need your help to get the government to address this issue and you can help by signing this petition and asking friends and family to do the same.

Thank you.
