Why this petition matters

Started by Falkirk Arts Network

If you’re local to Falkirk, at some point in your life you’ll have visited Falkirk Town Hall (FTH). Maybe it was with your granddad when the model railway club had an exhibition. Do you look forward to the next floral art show, poetry reading or blues evening? Or perhaps you’ve enjoyed watching the musicals and shows – both professional and amateur – that have graced the stage over 50-plus years.  For thousands, the town hall is where they took their first step into the spotlight as part of a theatre group, choir, dance school or orchestra.

Falkirk Town Hall has been at the heart of the community for over half a century but in just a few short months, it may disappear completely leaving Falkirk, a town already slowly dying, with one less amenity for its inhabitants.

Both the Town Hall and the Municipal Buildings that sit next to it are undoubtedly coming to the end of their usefulness and, while new office buildings are all but a foregone conclusion, the fate of the Town Hall is looking precarious. On Wednesday 28th September, a decision will be made as to whether or not Falkirk really needs a Town Hall.

Do we need one?

Do we need somewhere that exposes us to culture; somewhere for us to express our creativity? Do we need a place to forget about the stresses of everyday life and lose ourselves in a performance, an exhibition or workshop?

We, the Falkirk Arts Network and our many member organisations who perform at and visit FTH say YES! We do believe we need this facility in our lives and in Falkirk. Please sign to show your support and share why you support a replacement Town Hall/Arts Centre for Falkirk.
