Proof That Community Effort Makes Change

Midtown Neighbors' Association
Oct 23, 2020
Good morning fellow Atlanta residents. We are happy to report that you made a difference! Together, our voices were heard and the City of Atlanta Municipal Courts will reopen and begin hearing cases on Monday, October 26, 2020. Our petition was covered by the Atlanta Journal Constitution, shared over 800 times, and was monitored by City Council offices, the Mayor's office, the Atlanta Police Department, and Governor Kemp's team. The petition was born out of attending City Council meetings, working directly with the Atlanta Police Department and thoughtful civic association effort. If you have not been actively engaged with your neighborhood, please use this success as encouragement to sign up and continue making a difference. We finished with 3,343 signatures in one week. This equates to 111.4 hours of public comment that could be made in a City Council meeting. THIS PETITION IS LOUD. We will be closing and sharing the petition with all appropriate stakeholders and decision makers in our judicial branches as well as elected officials. Why? Because our work is not done. Our petition asked that street racing cases be advanced on the backlogged docket and for Fulton County State Court to reopen as well. If you would like to contact the Midtown Neighbors' Association team spearheading this effort, email us at safety@midtownatlanta.org. Thank you for being an integral part of this success. You've earned a celebratory toast tonight!
