Why this petition matters

Started by Andrew Johnston

It has been a long going issue at Tech that the student center is running out of space for the growing student body. The decision was made over the past years to begin a project to solve this issue. Know as the "Campus Center Project", the project will bring new buildings and renovate current buildings to better serve students. The biggest issue with this plan is the lack of consideration for student opinion on how the project should be carried out and what it should include. While a survey was taken to gauge student interest back in 2005, it appears little input was taken for the actual planning and execution of the project. Many students, alumni, donors, and fans have complained about the impact on campus of the project, specifically on eliminating the Campanile Fountain in exchange for a terraced landscape feature. The fountain has been an icon for Tech, almost as powerful as Tech Tower, and eliminating it would be detrimental. It has served as a photographic icon and a central location on campus to meet and interact. We want our voice to be heard, we want an explanation, and most importantly, we want to keep our fountain!
