As concerned parents, we urge other parents to support us and urge Pink Dot and the relevant authorities to issue the mature content advisory for Pinkdot 12 Livestream.

For the first time in its 12-year history, Pink Dot will not be held at the Speaker’s Corner, but livestreamed. The organisers have rallied its supporters to “Light up Singapore in Pink” by displaying pink lights in home windows and workplaces. Pink Dot has widely promoted their live broadcast, which will among other things, showcase content promoting homosexuality, including a video that features thirty-five local drag queens. “Light up Singapore in Pink” if beamed into the heartlands will undoubtedly pique the curiosity of children and expose them to homosexuality as a lifestyle.

Pink Dot’s 12’s livestream will premiere content featuring -

(1) thirty-five of Singapore’s drag queens, 

(2) animated short films based on the lived experiences of LGBTQ youths by @MyQueerStorySG 

(3) a special Pink Dot episode of ‘Nobody Asked’ by Preetipls and 

(4) a short documentary about a queer family forced to make difficult decisions due to the COVID-19 situation.   

*Reasons to give Pink Dot a Restricted Rating*

(1) It is deeply disturbing that Pink Dot in its FAQs asserts that content of homosexual nature is suitable for children.

(2) According to the IMDA Arts Entertainment Classification Code, “explicit references and depictions of lifestyles which are contrary to prevailing social norms” are Restricted. 

(3) With the popularity of social media and its exponential use among young people, including Primary school children, parents are finding it increasingly challenging to gatekeep internet content being pushed to our children. Relevant authorities have to do their part to protect children, particularly the younger ones, from unsafe content. The advisory from Pink Dot’s website is inconsistent with the internet guidelines laid down by IMDA.

(4)  Parents are deeply troubled that this year, Pink Dot’s online programme is piping its content into our homes- living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms without restraint. Such programmes with sexual themes will drive our children’s curiosity to other kinds of obscene content, thus increasing their exposure to cyber risks.

(5)  While it is true that parents are primarily responsible for filtering the online content that our children and youths consume, there are many young children and youths who do not have parental supervision. Who will protect these young minds and hearts, if society does not do its part?

(6) Many children will receive explicit and premature exposure to the drag and gay culture, especially through this show by the 35 drag queens.

In previous years, drag race by Singaporeans and foreigners alike were given a Restricted rating because of mature themes. Since Pink Dot 12 also features drag queens, it is only appropriate that they be Restricted as well. Without a Restricted Rating, there will be uncontrolled and premature exposure to explicit drag and gay culture through Pink Dot’s programme.  Will this eventually open the door to having drag queens read to children in public libraries?

(7)  According to the Children and Young Persons Act Part II Section 11, children cannot be shown entertainment content of immoral nature.

IMDA has been Singapore’s safeguard and moderator in ensuring that the young are protected from prohibited/unsuitable content while granting the more mature public the access to a wider range of content. This has been done through content classification with clearly stipulated standards in official documents such as the ‘Arts Entertainment Classification Code’ and ‘Internet Code of Practice’.  Under the internet guidelines of IMDA, the Internet Code of Practice under Section 4.2(e) clearly states that content material that is objectionable on the grounds of public morality and material that advocates homosexuality or lesbianism are prohibited.

Conclusion

For all the above reasons, we as concerned parents APPEAL TO YOUR SUPPORT to sign this petition and urge IMDA to review the suitability of Pink Dot’s livestream programme on 27 June 2020 for public broadcast, and to at least assign an appropriate classification so that the public is alerted to the nature of the content. We also strongly urge the organisers of Pink Dot to review its programme in consideration of the children tuning in.

（1）令人困扰的是，《粉红点》在其常见问题解答中断言同性恋性质的内容适合儿童使用。

（2）根据IMDA艺术娱乐分类法，“明确引用和描述与现行社会规范背道而驰的生活方式”是受限制的。

（3）随着社交媒体的普及及其在包括小学生在内的年轻人中的成倍增长，父母发现将互联网内容推送给我们的孩子越来越具有挑战性。有关当局必须尽力保护儿童，特别是确保年幼的儿童免受伤害。 Pink Dot网站上的建议与IMDA制定的互联网准则不符。

Sebagai ibu bapa yang prihatin, kami menggesa Pink Dot dan pihak berkuasa yang berkenaan untuk mengeluarkan nasihat kandungan dewasa untuk Pinkdot 12 Livestream.

Buat pertama kalinya dalam sejarah 12 tahun, Pink Dot tidak akan diadakan di Speaker’s Corner, tetapi disiarkan secara langsung. Penganjur telah mengumpulkan para penyokongnya untuk "Light up Singapore in Pink" dengan menampilkan lampu merah jambu di tingkap rumah dan tempat kerja. Pink Dot secara meluas mempromosikan siaran langsung mereka, yang antara lain akan memaparkan kandungan yang mempromosikan homoseksual, termasuk video yang menampilkan tiga puluh lima ratu tempatan. * Sebab untuk memberi Pink Dot Penarafan Terhad *

(1) Sangat mengganggu apabila Pink Dot dalam Soalan Lazimnya menyatakan bahawa kandungan homoseksual sesuai untuk kanak-kanak.

(2) Menurut Kod Pengelasan Hiburan Seni IMDA, "rujukan eksplisit dan penggambaran gaya hidup yang bertentangan dengan norma sosial yang berlaku" adalah Terhad.

(3) Dengan popularitas media sosial dan penggunaannya yang eksponensial di kalangan anak muda, termasuk anak-anak sekolah rendah, ibu bapa merasa semakin sukar untuk menyimpan kandungan internet yang ditujukan kepada anak-anak kita. Pihak berkuasa yang berkaitan harus melakukan peranan mereka untuk melindungi anak-anak, terutama yang lebih muda, dari kandungan yang tidak selamat. Nasihat dari laman web Pink Dot tidak sesuai dengan garis panduan internet yang ditetapkan oleh IMDA.

(4) Ibu bapa merasa sangat risau kerana tahun ini, program dalam talian Pink Dot memasukkan kandungannya ke rumah-ruang tamu, bilik tidur dan ruang makan tanpa kekangan. Program seperti ini dengan tema seksual akan mendorong rasa ingin tahu anak-anak kita terhadap jenis kandungan lucah yang lain, sehingga meningkatkan pendedahan mereka terhadap risiko siber.

(5) Walaupun benar bahawa ibu bapa bertanggungjawab terutamanya untuk menyaring kandungan dalam talian yang dimakan oleh anak-anak dan belia kita, terdapat banyak anak dan remaja yang tidak mempunyai pengawasan ibu bapa. Siapa yang akan melindungi minda dan hati muda ini, jika masyarakat tidak menjalankan peranannya?

(6) Banyak kanak-kanak akan mendapat pendedahan eksplisit dan pramatang terhadap budaya tarik dan gay, terutama melalui pertunjukan ini oleh 35 ratu drag.
Pada tahun-tahun sebelumnya, perlumbaan drag oleh warga Singapura dan orang asing diberi penilaian Terhad kerana tema yang matang. Oleh kerana Pink Dot 12 juga mempunyai perlumbaan seretan, maka wajar juga mereka dibatasi. Tanpa Penarafan Terhad, akan ada pendedahan yang tidak terkawal dan pramatang terhadap tarikan dan budaya gay yang eksplisit melalui program Pink Dot. Adakah ini akhirnya akan membuka pintu untuk membaca buku ratu kepada kanak-kanak di perpustakaan awam?

(7) Menurut Akta Kanak-kanak dan Orang Muda Bahagian II Bahagian 11, kanak-kanak tidak boleh ditunjukkan kandungan hiburan yang tidak bermoral.

IMDA telah menjadi pengawal dan moderator Singapura dalam memastikan bahawa golongan muda dilindungi dari kandungan terlarang / tidak sesuai sambil memberi orang dewasa yang lebih dewasa akses ke rangkaian kandungan yang lebih luas. Ini dilakukan melalui klasifikasi kandungan dengan standard yang ditetapkan dengan jelas dalam dokumen rasmi seperti ‘Code Entertainment Classification Code’ dan ‘Internet Code of Practice’. Di bawah garis panduan internet IMDA, Kod Amalan Internet di bawah Seksyen 4.2 (e) dengan jelas menyatakan bahawa bahan kandungan yang tidak dibenarkan dengan alasan moral masyarakat dan bahan yang menyokong homoseksual atau lesbianisme dilarang.

Atas semua alasan di atas, kami sebagai ibu bapa yang prihatin, mendesak IMDA untuk mengkaji kesesuaian program live streaming Pink Dot pada 27 Jun 2020 untuk siaran awam, dan sekurang-kurangnya memberikan klasifikasi yang sesuai agar orang ramai
