Why this petition matters

Started by Theresa Hammond

Changes need to happen for the welfare of adults and families with learning disabilities in England, who receive a very poor service from Adult Social Care Teams and Care Providers, using Tax Payers money.

My daughter, lived in a single supporting placement in Kent.  She has complex needs e.g., learning disability, autism, and ADHD.  During lockdown, she was not seen as part of my bubble, by the care provider manager, she said only her staff were part of my daughter's bubble.  My daughter's mental health deteriorated and she was prescribed anti- psychotic medication?  I had to fight to be part of her bubble, the local authority did not take any responsibility, giving power to the care provider?  This experience, also had an impact on my mental health. In the end, I made several complaints, one to the local authority highlighting that they had failed their legal duties under the Care Act 2014, and another complaint about the care providers for not meeting my daughter's needs, and basic human rights.

I did this all alone, and it is time for change.  How many families, have gone through a similiar experience?  Please support me to lobby the government to appoint an adult's disability commissioner for England, there is a Children's commissioner for England, and Wales, why is there not a commissioner for adults with a learning disability?
