Why this petition matters

As current legislation now excludes physical contact and sex in your own home with someone of a different household, we ask that provision be made for limited low risk activity, as dictated by the science. The ability to see even one person over a two week period with unlimited physical contact would not realistically increase infection rates as the R0 in many areas is now as low as 0.4 and the community infection and transmission rates are negligible.

If we must be forced into contact with those we don’t especially wish to be, in order to bolster the economy, we request to be allowed those most basic of animal needs- touch and sex, in order to make our ongoing sacrifices into a life worth living.

It is not always possible to cohabit with someone of another household, particularly in densely populated areas where many are sharing small houses and flats with others.  Though nobody wishes to become infected, we ask that the guidance and legislation be reviewed to no longer be a human rights violation.

The criminalisation of sex is unbecoming of a civilised Western society and does not fit the needs of beliefs of the population.  Fornication laws have not been punishable since 1660, and this legislation also disproportionately   affects those who are more vulnerable- the poor, disabled and members of the LGBTQIA community.
