Frontline heroes came in many forms throughout COVID-19. For people with disabilities, their Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) were the calming and caring support providers that helped them get through a scary and uncertain time. As group homes locked down, employment options disappeared, and loved ones had to stay away, DSPs were a familiar face that people with disabilities could rely on.

The average DSP in Minnesota makes barely $14 per hour to provide life enriching and essential care to people with disabilities. A DSP supports all facets of a person's life, including medical care, meal prep, and daily routines. 

As state leaders evaluate who should receive 'Hero Pay', please reward DSPs and their work in protecting and supporting people with disabilities as they so rightfully deserve.
