Sanction Lukashenka’s Regime for Crimes against Humanity

For several months Belarus is protesting against the unlawful ruler Alyaksandr Lukashenka who has rigged elections yet another time on August 9, 2020.

The protests have been peaceful with unprecedented number of people taking part in them and despite continuous provocations from the side of the dictatorial regime.

The peaceful demonstrations of Belarusians demanding free and fair election and respect for human rights and basic freedoms were met with horrendous violence, brutal force and unconcealed aggressiveness by the numerous armed structures of the regime, including masked men in civil clothes that act on orders from the police.

Since the beginning of the campaign of cruelty unleashed on personal orders of Lukashenka against civil population of Belarus more than 30 000 persons went through arrests and detentions. Many were severely beaten, tortured, mutilated, even killed and raped.

Already on September 1, 2020 United Nations experts reported 450 cases of violent tortures and at least 6 persons missing presumed to be dead. The numbers has risen dramatically since then.

There are more than 1000 criminal cases opened against participants in peaceful demonstrations in Belarus.

These facts prompted human rights defenders in Belarus as well as international organizations, like the World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT), to invoke the notion of "crimes against humanity" perpetrated by Lukashenka’s regime.

It is almost impossible to digest the scale of the repression against the people of Belarus for trying to exercise their right to choose their own government.

Likewise it is almost impossible to comprehend very soft, late, and inefficient reaction of the governments of the democratic world to the tragic events in Belarus or even absence of any reaction.

The list of couple of dozens of perpetrators from the regime under absolutely ineffective travel restrictions is in fact insulting for the Belarusian people who are being arrested, beaten, tortured and humiliated by thousands.

The thugs can be stopped only by strong sanctions from the West.

Sanction Lukashenka’s Regime for Crimes against Humanity

• disconnect the regime from the international banking system SWIFT
• freeze all foreign accounts of state companies
• stop buying oil products produced in Belarus
• embargo all transactions with companies supporting the regime
• declare all Lukashenko’s punitive structures terrorist organizations
• authorize arrests anywhere in the world by international and national courts of individuals guilty of the crimes of the regime
• expel all the ambassadors of the regime as accomplices in the crimes
