Why this petition matters

Started by Cecilia Cardwell

Steam, a digital distribution platform, recently announced it would not ship a new computer game called "Rape Day". This video game lets you play as a sociopathic rapist for kicks; and it's already found its way on the internet through other outlets worldwide.

A Squarespace website has since been created which features information about how and where to download the game for free. US-based Squarespace, one of the most popular website builders, should be a leader and disable this website immediately.

'Rape Day' lets you impersonate a serial killer rapist during a zombie apocalypse. The creator of the game describes it as a “visual novel” where the protagonist can  "verbally harass, kill people and rape women as you choose to progress the story".

Raping and killing women is not a game. We think the makers of this video “game” should not be allowed to profit from glorifying sexual violence against women.

If played enough and by certain people, video games can impact people's’ mental and physical health. Even if some think video games may not have real-world effects on the majority, is it worth the risk?!

We need to let Squarespace know that a game centered on raping and killing women is unacceptable and has to be removed from the market. We ask them to take down the game today.

Please sign and share my petition to say loud and clear that sexual violence and murder of women are not a game!
