Why this petition matters

57-year-old Sureshbhai Patel was visiting his son and newborn grandson in Madison, Alabama. He did not know much English.

When he was simply taking a stroll in the neighborhood on Feb 6th, 2015, a harmless activity, 911 was called saying a “suspicious person” was walking around the neighborhood. A police car then arrived at 8:18 am, and stopped and questioned Mr. Patel.

However, 2:20 min into the video, Alabama police officer Eric Parker uses excessive and unnecessary force to slam down Mr. Patel to the ground and arrests him. Check https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9Vgqe0SBLM

Mr.Patel was then hospitalized and partially paralyzed from the incident.

After a failed civil right case, 2 mistrials, now U.S. District Judge Madeline Haikala dismisses the case and acquits the officer, AND NO JUSTICE HAS BEEN SERVED.

This is absolutely unacceptable: partially paralyzing someone is a criminal offense and should be treated like so.

Let's fight for justice, and hold the police officers accountable for their clear abuse of power and any related issues of profiling.

**Update 6/17/2020** Mr.Patel's lawsuit from 2015 was approved to move forward a few weeks ago!!
