Why this petition matters

Started by Sara Ratliff

DATE: December 8, 2020

ISSUE: On December 7, 2020, three news outlets published a story about Alexis Sharkey, a 26-year-old Executive Director with MONAT Global Corp, who was found dead 10 days ago. The articles published leverage her death to justify inaccurate and false claims about MONAT, the products, and Alexis’ life and legacy. They are incredibly disrespectful towards Alexis, and imply that her legacy is less-than because she was involved with MONAT, a legitimate direct sales company. This is the highest level of disrespect towards Alexis and her family.

OBJECTIVE: After several attempts to call on Fox News to remove their article (from several submissions via the “help” feature on their website), we are now calling on Fox News, the New York Post, and the Daily Mail to remove their hurtful and inaccurate stories, correct their false statements, and apologize to Alexis Sharkey’s family.

The articles published by Fox News, the New York Post, and the Daily Mail are an incredibly obvious attempt to injure Alexis’ reputation and mock the significant role and legacy Alexis built within the MONAT community. These attempts to injure her reputation after her death knowing she can’t defend herself against such claims is despicable.

It’s a blatant example of click-bait being prioritized over honest journalism, and we stand to correct the false information being spread.

We urge Fox News, the New York Post, and the Daily Mail to put themselves in the shoes of Alexis’ parents and family. Would you want your child or family member talked about this way? Would you want a loved one slandered and lied about after they died? No human being would wish for this.

We ask you to respect and celebrate who Alexis was, and not focus on tearing down her legacy based on what you thought she was.

We call on Fox News, the New York Post, and the Daily Mail to remove their stories and correct their statements immediately, and issue an apology to Alexis and her family. To go after Alexis when she has no voice is inherently despicable, and is the reason we are advocating for her and her legacy. We refuse to let her be remembered this way.
