Why this petition matters

Started by Humane Research Australia Inc

Did you know that in Australia alone, a staggering 9 million animals or more are used for research and teaching purposes every single year?

That's a jaw-dropping number! Despite claims of commitment to the 3Rs principle—Replace, Reduce, and Refine—our progress in Australia of replacing animal testing has been alarmingly slow. In fact, Australia has been ranked as the fourth highest user of animals in research (1). It's high time we address this pressing issue, and here's why.

Flawed animal studies are raising concerns within the scientific community

Animal studies contribute significantly to failures in translating research findings to humans. That means the potential cures and breakthroughs we desperately need are being hindered by our reliance on outdated methods (2). We must urgently focus on finding alternatives to animal testing!

The Australian code (3) dictates that animal research should only be considered when no alternative methods exist. But here's the catch: those alternatives won't magically appear unless we provide the necessary support for the development of non-animal based scientific testing. That's why Australian researchers need dedicated funds specifically earmarked for the advancement of animal-free research, just like other nations do.

Imagine a future where animals are spared the hardship of life in a laboratory!

By shifting our focus towards human-relevant methods of research, we can achieve just that! Not only will this transformation save millions of precious lives, but it will also ensure that the research data we generate is directly applicable to humans. This means a higher likelihood of finding genuine cures for human ailments and improving our overall well-being.

But we can't make this change happen without your help!

We need your voice to make a difference. Join us by signing the petition to fund animal-free methods of research. Together, we can pave the way for a brighter, more compassionate future, where animals are no longer subjected to unnecessary suffering. Your signature could be the turning

point we need to spark real change.

Sign this petition to become part of this important movement towards animal-free research in Australia.

Let's make a profound impact on the lives of animals and the future of medical breakthroughs. Take action today!
