Why this petition matters

Started by Rachel Evans

We want Government to provide clarity on where children's indoor extracurricular activities, lessons, classes and clubs feature within the easing of lockdown plans. There has been no reference to when these sort of activities can resume. Clear guidance is needed for parents, children and these small local businesses.

Children are eager to return to their activities, lessons, classes and clubs.  This is essential for children's mental health and wellbeing which has been greatly impacted by the COVID-19 lockdown.  Parents need to know if Summer schools and clubs will be available whilst they have to work over Summer.  Small business owners that run these activities, lessons, classes and clubs are also currently in limbo, uncertain on when they can reopen.  Many of these small local businesses have seen their incomes vanish overnight without any idea of when their income will return.

Many of these activities, lessons, classes and clubs are held in school buildings, therefore, Government and Local Authorities need to allow schools to hire out their premises again so these activities, lessons, classes and clubs are not closed for any longer once the lockdown restrictions on these activities are lifted.  Schools need to be provided with the reassurance and confidence from Government and Local Authorities that they can hire to these small local businesses again.  This is crucial for the survival of these small local businesses and for the wellbeing of children.
