Latin Americans live in fear, today we are the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic in the world, with 7,000,000 confirmed cases and 270,000 deaths as of August 27, 2020. Governments must act urgently with evidence-based measures, so up to 100,000 lives could be saved:

1. Resume economic activities in a strategic fashion, based on scientific evidence with reliable metrics.
2. Implement a preparedness and response plan to limit the loss of lives.
3. Avoid spreading conflicting and confusing messages.
4. Expand access to testing for timely diagnosis of COVID-19 cases.
5. Track the infected and their contacts.
6. Ensure universal and free access to health care.
7. Promote the correct use of protective masks.
8. Inform the population about the personal care measures to be taken to prevent infections.
9. In the face of an unprecedented economic crisis, combat hunger and provide food aid.
10. Implement measures to preserve progress in the control of HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, dengue, cholera and other communicable infectious diseases.
11. Ensure access and availability of personal protective equipment (PPE).
12. Promote social awareness to prevent stigma and discrimination against health workers, people infected with COVID-19 and those who have recovered.

AIDS Healthcare  Foundation (AHF), the world's largest AIDS organization, which currently provides care and medical services to more than 1.4 million people in 45 countries worldwide, has seen firsthand the impact that other epidemics such as Ebola, Zika and SARS have had on the world population; and now with COVID-19, things cannot continue like this.

#NoTimeToLose is an initiative where AHF urges the governments of Latin American countries to implement a unified rescue plan to act in the face of the COVID-19 crisis, before the catastrophe has generational consequences.
