Why this petition matters

Started by Samantha Wylie

At the start of reconciliation week my family and I challenged my local community to write to our local councillors requesting they Acknowledge Traditional Custodians the Darug people and Acknowledge Country before their meetings and events the responses received within the community were quite disheartening although it has opened the eyes of a broader community to the prejudice against First Nations Mob in this country today.

Currently there is no acknowledgement of traditional custodians at meetings or major events within my community.
We have been humbled and overwhelmed by the support we have received from the local members that have reached out to us and we would like to see this change in the future

Premiers protocol: Aboriginal people are the original owners of the land and it is important that this special position of Aboriginal people is recognised and incorporated into official protocol to enable the wider community to share in Aboriginal culture and facilitate better relationships between Aboriginal people and the general community.

"Irrespective of what government is in power they pay their respect and recognise that the Aboriginal and Torres Strait people are the traditional custodians of the land and pay their respect".

Recognition is the first step to reconciliation and please help the Darug people and support our children to grow up in a community that is inclusive of their culture and beliefs with pride.
