Why this petition matters

Zimbabwe's economy continues to be in the doldrums with the exchange rate of the ZWL$ continuing its freefall against the US$ and fuelled by the informal black market.

The Reserve Bank Governor, John Panonetsa Mangudya clearly indicated that he did not know what was happening in the economy and to the local currency, and was 100% convinced that a demon had now possessed Zimbabwe.

As an economist and Central Bank chief who has the mandate of ensuring strict implementation of monetary policy for the benefit of all, Mangudya has not done anything tangible to curtail the rampant illegal trading of money on the streets. The leakage of brand new notes onto the informal market has continued unabated with authorities finding excuses at every turn.

The loss in value of the local currency has impacted negatively on authentic merchantile trading activities with farmers being the hardest hit as they have to be paid at the prevailing RBZ fixed rate of 25 against the US$ as opposed to the 75 on the black market.

Based on Mangudya's own implied admission of failure, this petition seeks to humbly ask the Head of State, His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa, to dismiss the Governor and appoint another professional who can use economics knowledge to restore sanity in the economy and at RBZ.

If you agree, please sign the petition and let your voice be heard. Zimbabwe has suffered enough from the incompetence and dishonest practices at the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe.
