Why this petition matters

Started by Elaine Johnson

The city of Palmetto and Manatee County are surrounded by beautiful waterfront! The city of Palmetto revamped their Boat Ramp in 2014 stating it was to improve the ramps and the parking for the boating community. The overflow parking across the street (834 Riverside Dr.) has been used for years for 50-70 vehicles & trailers per day each weekend and is going to be sold for development, leaving just 18 boat trailer parking spots.

If you would like to continue to have access to it for Boating ,Fishing and other activities please join our cause.

Our objective is to stop the sale of the property to the Developers whom plan to build high rise residency and retail.

Our goal is to have a permanent facility/park for boat trailer parking and community events. We encourage Manatee County to partner with the city of Palmetto to come true on their previous promises to provide the boating community with more boat ramps and improve on the existing parking shortages. This is a Manatee county issue as the boaters north of the river would have to use Bradenton’s ramps if we lose the parking in Palmetto.

The impact of the lack of parking in Palmetto will be devastating along with the added density to traffic. Palmetto businesses along 10th Ave are currently struggling to accommodate parking for their customers. The boat trailers will have no choice but to park throughout that area only adding to the congestion and safety issues. All the public boat ramps in Manatee county are over capacity on the weekends already, imagine losing another 50-70 parking spots. Currently Manatee county has over 21,000 registered boaters.
