Why this petition matters

Started by Sindys Law

Our beloved horse Sindy was brutally attacked, stabbed & mutilated whilst grazing in her paddock in October 2019. Unfortunately her injuries were so severe; she had to be put to sleep. The trauma this has caused to us as a family will live with us forever.  We would like Sindys Law to be put in place to receive justice for her & her name to be remembered, and she didn't die in vain.

In the UK, hundreds of domestic horses, dogs, cats and farm animals are attacked, killed & mutilated on a daily basis.

Unfortunately, our laws don't protect them the same way as Finns law and currently, the law views an animal as little more than property.
This means that if an animal is assaulted or attacked, the attacker is likely to receive a punishment the same to smashing a window.

It happens, Sindy’s attacker has never been caught, however if anyone is ever charged, only criminal damage and trespass would be charged. (Criminal Damage Act 1971)

This is unacceptable and it is time we did something to ensure that anyone attacking an innocent animal is punished appropriately and animals be given protection that they deserve.

As Sindys Law, this campaign aims to persuade the The UK Government to introduce a new criminal offence of harming or killing an animal. This would adequately punish those who harm farm animals, domestic pets, like dogs, cats, horses.

Introducing a criminal offence of causing injury to animals will ensure criminals, who attack animals are dealt with effectively, raise awareness of the severity of the crime and deter further attacks. Ultimately this gives animals the legal protection they deserve

Animal Welfare Act 2006: Prevention of Harm - This is not clear, we need one Law... Sindys Law
