Gypsy Roma Traveller children are being denied the right to access Education.

The Gypsy Roma Traveller Teaching and learning provision (ISEND) funded by councils nationwide to helps us to engage positively with education is being taken away.

We have spent years establishing strong links with the service building trust, breaking down barriers between cultures to stop GRT children turning to crime in later life after being failed by a system that is not inclusive. 

When we have problems we don’t know how to handle we phone them.

They support us in so many ways, often sign posting us to other services who we don’t engage with easily. 

The GRT Team is going to be gone and with it will be thousands of children’s hopes and dreams. 

“No person shall be denied a right to an
education”. That’s what our Human Rights act says. 

The rights of our children are being breached by withdrawing the GRT Support provided to engage a ethnic minority with education.

This service makes it possible for the most vulnerable members of our community to be supported in embracing education at all levels. 
I will just highlight a few sad reality’s of our situation.

* GRT CHILDREN HAVE THE WORST EDUCATION OUTCOMES OF ANY ETHNIC GROPU IN THE UK.
* GRT CHILDREN ARE THE LOWEST ACHIEVING GROUP AT EVERY KEY STAGE
* GRT CHILDREN ATE 3 TIMES MORE LIKELY TO BE EXCLUDED
* GRT CHILDREN HAVE THE HIGHEST ABSENCE RATES

We need support. The cultural divide has gone on too long. 

The only education the men in my family have received has been in a prison.

My sons will not be robbed of hope like they were. I will not allow it.

Our children face no better prospects than their grandfathers before them. 

The little progress made to build the bridge, build trust between us and the education system has now been made a waste of time.

How is it justified to DENY us the support we have spent years establishing, to help our children get the education they deserve and that we are required by law to provide?
