Why this petition matters

Started by Lily McCollum

Neshaminy High School has a notoriously racist past and mascot that they have refused to change for years. The former principal, Dr. McGee even went as far as to try and censor the student run newspaper for not wanting to use the term “redskin” in the school paper. The time for Neshaminy to change their mascot is long overdue. The term r-skin is a racial slur against indigenous people and it only does harm by promoting stereotypes. Changing their mascot is just step one into dismantling some of their racist past. Indigenous people have been fighting for a long time to dismantle the racism in predominantly white institutions across the country. Now more than ever is the time to demand change and justice for Indigenous people across the country.
