Stop Forcing Victims of Domestic Abuse to Live with their Abusers
Stop Forcing Victims of Domestic Abuse to Live with their Abusers
Why this petition matters
The High Court of South Africa passed a judgement ruling stating that an abuser who commits domestic violence against a live in partner may not be evicted with a protection order until an enquiry has been made in to whether the perpetrator can financially afford to live elsewhere. If not, the abuser may remain in the household in which they actively abuse.
In a socio-political climate rife with anti-gender-based violence focus, the South African Court has proved that they are willing to prioritise the comfort of abusers over the safety of victims.
The abhorrent and inadequate leadership within our justice system is plagued by men who remain apathetic for survivors of domestic abuse.
We demand that the South African Judiciary investigates and appeals this matter. We demand for systems to instead promote the speedy eviction of abusers and the re-prioritisation of victims at the centre of all assault matters.
