Why this petition matters

Started by Toney Herndon

My name is Toney Herndon and I am the owner of Hard Times Skate Shop.  Hard Times Skate Shop, located in Cradock at 67 Afton Parkway, has been operational in Portsmouth for a little over 8 years now.  It will be 9 in May.    We specialize in skateboards, apparel and footwear.  The Shop has become a vital part of the community.   We are not just an advocate for skateboarding.   We enthusiastically support the Cradock community and the youth of Hampton Roads as we provide free lunch for the hungry, host and promote both recreational and educational program designed to provide a safe space for community and enhance characters skills such as inclusion, responsibility, teamwork and respect.  I am coming before you to request your assistance with keeping the Cradock Skate Park and keeping it located in Cradock.

I’m not sure if you know it or not but on January 5, 2021 the Portsmouth Zoning Committee approved a zoning plan for a new fire station to be located at 4117  George Washington Highway.  This is where Cradock Skate Park (Parkside Place Skate Park) is currently located.  The plan must be approved by City Council for the city to proceed.  The problem with the plan is that the city has nothing written/included in the plans for the relocation of Cradock Skate Park.

On February 9, 2021 the Portsmouth City Council will vote on the zoning plan for the new fire station.  Hard Times Skate Shop, Skaters near and far, the kids and Cradock need your help to KEEP THE SKATE PARK IN CRADOCK.  On February 9, 2021 we need you all to register to speak on the behalf on KEEPING THE SKATE PARK IN CRADOCK. Once the issue of the Fire Station Zoning is brought to the table let the Portsmouth City Council know that you’d like to keep the park located in Cradock if the fire station plans are approved.
