Report Confirms Misconduct at the TCDSB

Protect Our Youth
Toronto, Canada
Nov 8, 2020

Today marks a full year since Mike Del Grande and his human-rights opposing posse concluded their orchestrated attack on the LGBTQ+ community, specifically targeting youth and families that are a part of the TCDSB, by voting against mandatory protections and (Del Grande) giving a speech equating this already marginalized body to horrible criminal acts.

In addition to multiple complaints about all trustees that voted against human rights laws in board policies, Del Grande's comments specifically were under investigation by Rubin Thomilson's Michelle Bird. The findings of this investigation were provided to trustees to make a determination on whether he breached his code of conduct in May of 2020.

On August 20, 2020, the same four questionable trustees, along with Angela Kennedy, voted to exonerate him, essentially making a statement that this type of harassment and discrimination is allowed at the board.

These trustees also voted to not share the report with complainants, so we were unable to determine if we were mischaracterized in the findings. This all seemed very suspicious so many pushed to have the report released. This issue made it to the Ontario Legislative Assembly where former premier Kathleen Wynne applied pressure on the Minister of Education, Stephen Lecce, to demand its release.

This pressure got to the board, as trustees voted in a private session last week to release the report to complainants (names and some details redacted) and to Minister Lecce (in full).

The report clearly details that this third party investigation found that Del Grande was in breach of his code of conduct. That confirmed trustees Kennedy, Tanuan, Crawford and Lubinski ignored the reports findings, squandering resources and compounding the damage already done by them, as well as the  board's inaction to date.

A Special Board Meeting is now scheduled for the Wednesday, November 11th, 2020, where trustee De Dominico will be reopening the vote on whether to find Del Grande in breach as the report details.

Concerns over the four other trustees that voted in bad faith now need to be addressed as well.

ACTION ALERT:
Please help get these concerns heard and on the table by contacting the trustees before the Special Board meeting.
