Why this petition matters

Started by Kazi Hoque

According to Forbes, the garment business is the largest industry in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is also the 2nd largest country in the apparel industry, standing right behind China. Despite working for a notable business, the environment that the laborers work in is extremely dangerous and fatal. Back in 2012, a fire broke out in a garment factory in Dhaka, killing 117 people. Four years later, there was another factory fire in Tongi, killing 23 people and injuring 70. Every day, these Bangladeshi workers are putting their lives at risk for the sake of the economy and their personal needs. Many people, especially children and young women, are at risk of losing their lives and leaving behind their families. Many are also the only ones in their families capable of working and earning money. Unfortunately, many large American corporations aren't paying these workers for their hard work and dedication. Some of these large businesses include Kylie Jenner's clothing line, FashionNova, JCPenny, Forever21, and many other large clothing lines. Currently, people are flooding the streets of Bangladesh, protesting for change and crying for help (even during this pandemic). They need our help as soon as possible. Let's enhance their voices and make sure that these corporations feel their anger and disappointment, and pay them the money that they deserve.
