Why this petition matters

Started by Paula Overby

Democratic elections and equal protection under the law are critical to the preservation of our democracy. Minnesota law requires a special election if one of the major party candidates dies within 79 days of election day. The law is well written to accommodate a range of electoral factors like early voting, military overseas voting, and fair representation for all of Minnesota voters. It is a model of electoral democracy unparalleled in any other state. Voter rights in Minnesota are under attack. The Democratic party that at one time enacted the law, is now exploiting the federal courts to try and overturn the law. The Governor of Minnesota and the Secretary of State are moving to dismiss Minnesota's constitutional right to define the method of our elections. Encourage our Attorney General to protect First Amendment rights, equal protection under the law, separation of powers, and due process. Sign the petition if you want to protect Minnesota's right to decide how we choose our representatives.
