Help Illinois Personal Care Workers get inclusion in phase 1C of vaccine rollouts
Help Illinois Personal Care Workers get inclusion in phase 1C of vaccine rollouts
Why this petition matters
Since reopening of salons and spas in June 2020, licensed cosmetologists, barbers, massage therapists and other personal care workers have been working very closely with the public during the COVID-19 pandemic. The work of hairstylists, makeup artists, nail technicians, aestheticians, barbers, lash technicians and massage therapists requires touching and close face-to-face contact for hours at a time. While personal care workers are licensed in disinfection and sanitation, with an airborne virus we are putting our health at risk every single day to stay afloat. We have made tough calls, lost employees or clientele, have spent hundreds, or in some cases thousands of dollars, to make sure our clients and communities feel safe receiving our services. As we do not have the luxury of working from the safety of our homes, it is crucial that as personal care workers we are able to keep ourselves and our communities safe by allowing us inclusion in phase 1C of vaccine rollouts. By signing this petition, we are demanding that Illinois Governor J.B Pritzker, Senator Tammy Duckworth and Senator Richard Durbin include licensed personal care workers in the 1C vaccine rollout starting March 31st.
