Say No to War, Save Tigray
Say No to War, Save Tigray
Why this petition matters
I am one of the many young people living in London from the Tigray diaspora in Northern Ethiopia. We are angry and fearful of PM Abiy Ahmed’s decision to launch a military campaign against the TPLF, as he has essentially waged war on the Tigray region. He is teetering dangerously close to an all-out civil war, and it is my people that will have to pay for it. The war is pointless and alienates the Tigray people from the rest of Ethiopia. Civilians should not be dragged into a political dispute. The UN says at least nine million people risk displacement from this conflict, we must do everything we can to prevent this from happening – this isn’t good for anyone!
I am further outraged that this is happening at a time where Tigray is suffering from a locust plague that’s devastating our farmers and their families. A time where Covid-19 is rife and is taking our defenceless people victim. This is a time where the Tigray people need to be supported, not isolated. I am writing to you in the hopes that you can empathise and stand up against Abiy’s military campaign. Help us add international pressure and condemnation. This threatens the peace of the whole Horn of Africa region. I don’t want to have to sit and watch my people get massacred on TV hopelessly, knowing we could’ve done something to stop it.
Speak out against this grave injustice.
Thank you for your time,
Christina Adane.
