Brandy Melville, a well-known girls’ clothing store, has a one-size policy. You might be familiar with the one size fits all idea, but this is different. The size they carry only fits girls who are an XS or S, sometimes M. I, for one, was disappointed when some of their tops were a little too tight on me. To me, the solution was loosing a few pounds. This is how the brand is leading to body image issues. While Brandy Melville is becoming very popular among teens and tweens, not everyone can fit into their clothes. If you like the aesthetic of their clothing but can’t wear them, finding another store that sells similar items can be tricky. Due to this, girls could start starving themselves or become insecure of their body. Many could develop an eating disorder or body dysmorphia while trying to lose weight to fit into the brand’s clothing. What seems like a simple size policy can lead to a lasting negative impact on their customers.
