Fix the dangerous merge onto the Gore Hill Freeway at Lane Cove
Fix the dangerous merge onto the Gore Hill Freeway at Lane Cove
Why this petition matters
Despite being confident on the road, I fear this spot when I drive or ride by it. But it wasn't until I saw a motorbike surrounded by emergency vehicles there that I was motivated to ask other locals how they felt.
It turns out a huge number of Lane Cove residents feel the same way. Many have admitted to knowingly breaking the law just to avoid it.
Lane Cove residents - including the editor of the local publication, In The Cove - campaigned for this in 2016. They won and the Department of Roads and Maritime Services moved the end sign for the transit lane. But a few weeks later it was back in the original place.
When In The Cove questioned this, no satisfactory explanation was offered by the Department.
Please sign this petition so we can remove a source of mortal fear and real danger from everyone's lives. It's just totally unnecessary.
Hon. Anthony Roberts, do the right thing and take this seriously.
Some community suggestions for improving motorist safety here are:
- Move the transit lane end point south so Fwy motorists in the right lane are confident to assist the merging driver;
- Install a mirror at the merge point to improve visibility;
- Change the landscaping on the verge (either totally remove or aggressively control the height of plants) to improve visibility;
- Change the physical structure of the verge to increase the merge window and driver visibility; and
- Be accountable - unlike last time
