Lana, put the original Next Best American Record on digital versions of NFR
Why this petition matters
Fans have long been in love with the Lana Del Rey track, The Next Best American Record, for its bitter and nostalgic take on fleeting love, resentment, nostalgia, and the dark side of fame. The song's chorus contained some of Del Rey's best and most introspective lyrics reminiscing on a relationship gone sour due to a former boyfriend's obsession with fame without heeding the warnings given by his then partner. The song ends with a resentful, "honey, how's it feeling," perfectly encapsulating the emotion of the track.
When new lyrics for Lana's album, Norman F-ing Rockwell, were released, fans were heavily dismayed by the lyric changes that The Next Best American Record has undergone. The aforementioned chorus (and prechorus) have been reduced to saccharine nonsense such as "Whatever's on tonight/I just wanna party with you" and the current outro completely falls flat, lacking the emotion and bitterness of the original.
Lana, please rectify this by putting your best work (the original) on streaming services. We recognize that it's probably too late to put the demo version on physical copies of the album, but it is not to late to keep it in place of the new version on digital copies.
