The Trump Administration has finalized a rule of reversing The Transgender Protection Law set under the Obama-era, which would remove non discrimination protections for LGBTQ people. This means that a transgender person could be refused medical help at a doctor’s office or be charged a higher cost for any surgical procedures.

We must not let this happen. This is inhumane and strips the dignity of every human being, contrary to what Roger Severino, who directs the Office for Civil Rights in the Department of Health and Human Services, says:

"HHS respects the dignity of every human being, and as we have shown in our response to the pandemic, we vigorously protect and enforce the civil rights of all to the fullest extent permitted by our laws as passed by Congress.”

If you truly respect the dignity and wellbeing of every human being, you would not let this happen. This is especially dangerous for black trans people who are already an extremely marginalized group and are most vulnerable. This reversal of the transgender protection laws would greatly impact those individuals who already face discrimination and oppression. This would make it harder for them to get the health care they need, especially during this time of the pandemic. If there are no policies in place against discrimination in health care settings, transgender individuals are more susceptible to facing obstacles in getting whatever surgery necessary or basic healthcare if the provider holds prejudice. That is NOT acceptable at all.

All lives can’t matter until black lives matter. All lives can’t matter until BLACK TRANS LIVES matter as well.

This rule may be finalized but it does not have the approval from the Supreme Court yet. We must not let this happen. We must not strip away someone’s human rights just because we don’t understand it or it is something that seems strange and foreign to us. We must educate ourselves to do better. Please stop the reversal of the Transgender Protection Laws. Any individual regardless of skin color, sexual orientation, gender, etc.,  should never be denied the basic human rights such as healthcare.

Congress NEEDS to invalidate this rule, using the Congressional Review Act because this is an infringement on the basic human rights. Congress needs to overturn this rule and prevent it from happening. Countless of innocent lives have already been taken. The Trans community have been repeatedly silenced.  We must not let this keep happening. We must help in making sure every member of the community feels safe and heard.

STOP THE REVERSAL OF THE TRANSGENDER HEALTH PROTECTION LAWS.
