Why this petition matters

Started by cathryn rodriguez

By signing this petition, you are recognizing that Darren White, previous sheriff of Nodaway County was dismissive to the sexual assault cases of underage females, Catherine Daisy Coleman (14 yrs.) and Paige Parkhurst (13 yrs.)

By signing this petition, you are acknowledging that Darren White’s personal opinion of the matters affected the outcome of this case, for which he should be punished.

By signing this petition, you are stating you do not believe Darren White should be allowed to run in this years’ election for Nodaway County Sheriff, nor any other election.

In the 2016 Netflix documentary titled, “Audrie & Daisy,” Daisy and her best friend Paige, intoxicated minors at the time, were sexually assaulted while with a group of older males. Although their accused rapists admitted both Daisy and Paige were inebriated, underaged, and that at least one of the assaults, specifically Daisy’s, was recorded via cellphone, Darren White, sheriff at the time, stated in the documentary that the girls were just as responsible as the males, among other merciless, crude comments towards the girls. His feelings, thoughts and opinions regarding the assaults were expressed throughout Daisy’s portion of the documentary, establishing he had no intent of seeking justice for the underaged girls.

Despite the difficult road to recovery for the girls, neither ever received justice for their assaults. The accused rapists received probation and a fine to pay.

On Aug. 4, 2020, Catherine Daisy Coleman was found dead by suicide. It was said that she never fully recovered from the entire situation, despite therapy and treatment being sought, while fighting the demons of her past. One can imagine the trauma and mental anguish with which it became too much to live.

We are aware this petition will not bring back Daisy. However, if Darren White had put his personal feelings aside, acted professionally within his role as sheriff and worked for the community, as opposed to what he wanted the community to look like, most likely the cases would have gone to full trial and justice would have been served, as opposed to a slap on the wrist for their accused rapists, who happened to be related to a well-known political figure.

Darren White is responsible for the suicide of Catherine Daisy Coleman.

I would like for us to be responsible for Darren White remaining a citizen of the county, rather than becoming the sheriff or having that chance. One can only fathom all of the other cases that were dismissed while Darren White was sheriff.

I would like for us to prevent any potential future harm and wrong-doing.

Sexual assault IS A CRIME in every state. Although you may not be punished in the same manner, disregarding the crime makes you just as guilty as the assailant.

By signing this petition, you are helping prevent sex crimes, not just in Nodaway County, but all over the world as we stand as one to represent Daisy, Paige, and victims across the globe who were not listened to when they cried for help.

I genuinely thank you,

- #iAmCat
