Why this petition matters

Started by Jeremy Neal

When Samsung's flagship model the Q9 (2018) released it gave consumers a taste of some of the features they could expect to see from the upcoming HDMI 2.1 specification. The Q9 did not have HDMI 2.1 ports, but it did support features such as FreeSync/VRR albeit with limited range at 4K and fixed to a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz.

Since the release of the Q9 much has changed and is continuing to change in the tech space with more and more models from the big manufacturers now sporting multiple HDMI 2.1 connections allowing them to support features such as 4K 120Hz, eARC and 8K for certain models.

Products and devices that are HDMI 2.1 compliant are also increasing in number and for those who also use their displays for gaming, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox One X Series releasing later this year will be taking great advantage of the new 2.1 standard.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we currently live a world where there is much uncertainty and an ever increasing number of people are unable (for good reason) to justify the expense of a new TV due to concerns over job/financial security.

Considering the Q9 is a perfectly capable display and only lacking a few features of HDMI 2.1, I am starting this petition to hopefully show Samsung that there is indeed interest out there among Q9 owners in upgrading the current One Connect Box to HDMI 2.1 compliance. Samsung has already proven that this can be done as seen with owners of the Q900R.

If i could ask anyone that is interested to please sign this petition and I hope that you are all safe and well.

Many thanks
