Petition to GFA Executive to change the voting system for the Board

Recreational Aviation Australia (RAA) send out postal votes to all members for Board elections. This could also be done by email and secure online voting.

For each candidate the RAA magazine publishes a photo, a one page CV and what the candidate hopes to achieve. They get some excellent quality candidates and thousands of rank and file members engage and return their votes.

The RAA is thriving and expanding. Their open and transparent voting system seems to be a part of their success. GFA in contrast, is contracting and facing a very uncertain future. The GFA system encourages only a tiny number of members to engage and vote for their Board members. I drove to Bathurst for the NSWGA annual meeting to find there was only one candidate for the NSW Board position, there was no call for nominations and about 10 of the same old faces have been voting this same person in year after year.

This petition is to the Gliding Federation of Australia (GFA) to adopt a similar system for electing Board members as the one used by the RAA.
