Why this petition matters

Started by Peter Beckett

In 2003, it was remarked that war in Iraq would 'set off a spiral of conflict, of hate, of misery, of desperation that will fuel the wars, the conflict, the terrorism, the depression and the misery of future generations.' All of this and more proved to be true. 179 brave British servicemen were reported to have been killed following the invasion and much of the Middle-East has since been a breeding ground for terrorism.

War with Iran would be far more devastating for all parties.

Why should we risk the lives of thousands of brave British soldiers to advance American economic interests and satisfy Donald Trump's ego?

Why should we spend billions of pounds on senseless destruction whilst there are people in our country living in poverty, whilst the climate emergency becomes increasingly urgent, whilst our NHS is criminally underfunded?

Why should we make ourselves a target for future terrorists?

We, the signatories, demand that the British Government rules out taking any military action against Iran.
