Demand that the South African Government act against Gender Based Violence
Demand that the South African Government act against Gender Based Violence
Why this petition matters
We are sick and tired of the war against women in South Africa. We are sick and tired of the abuse. We are sick and tired of being raped. We are sick and tired of DYING.
Lifeline has reported that gender based violence cases went up 500% since the lockdown. The UN has called violence against women and girls the "shadow pandemic."
For South African Women, this is all too familiar. Let us demand that the President, the Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, the Minister of Police, SAPS and the entire Government address and tackle this issue. They clearly are not doing enough.
We demand sustainable structural and social change.
We demand safety.
We demand equality and empowerment.
From top to bottom, this is not okay. Boys in school need to learn that this is not okay. Men in power need to know this is not okay. Boys and men in general need to know that this is not okay.
For Tshegofatse, Naledi, Uyinene and countless other women and girls who should still be alive today.
