Restore Constitutional Congressional Apportionment
Restore Constitutional Congressional Apportionment
Why this petition matters
Congressional Apportionment, as outlined in Article I, Section II, Clause III of the United States Constitution was overruled by The Reapportionment Act of 1929. This bill established a permanent method for apportioning a constant 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives according to each census, bypassing the Constitutional rule of one Representative in the House of Representatives for every 30,000 citizens in a District.
The time has long passed for the Reapportionment Act of 1929 to be repealed, given the massive increase in the U.S. population in the almost 100 years since the Reapportionment Act was passed.
With that being stated, this is a petition to be presented to the United States Congress in order to restore the Congressional Apportionment laid out originally within Article I, Section II, Clause III of the United States Constitution, specifying the number of constituents represented by a single Member of the House of Representatives of the United States as 30,000 constituents per House of Representatives Member.
The original specification has not been honored since the Reapportionment Act of 1929, giving the United States Citizens too few Representatives who are able to represent their constituents in an adequate fashion.
Would you, as a voting citizen of the United States of America, sign this petition in order to see yourself represented adequately by an enlarged House of Representatives, a House not only more representative and responsive to the constituency that they are elected to Serve, but more willing to work across “party lines” in order to help achieve a “more perfect union”, in spite of Party?
