Include Music Studios in Glasgow in the 100% Covid Business Rates Relief awarded to others
Why this petition matters
Music studios are facing huge bills for Business Rates from GCC with little or no income to finance this due to COVID. They are paying huge sums of money (for example, £1000 per month!) for a business that has been closed during lockdown and at best when they have been able to open, have had few customers due to Covid restrictions. The solution to this problem is to include music studios in the 100% Covid Counci Tax relief awarded to retail, leisure and hospitality. This could help stop permanent closure for studios and allow them to continue to service the wider network of musicians survive the pandemic, helping overcome isolation, mental health problems and providing opportunities to employment. The Music Producers Guild has called for business rates relief to be extended to recording studios and The Musicians Union supports this call.
Glasgow needs music studios if if is to survive this pandemic and continue to build upon it's international reputation as a city that has a vibrant, eclectic music scene. Rising stars (and future rising stars) in the music industry need studios to rehearse, learn new skills, take tuition, record their music to help sell their wares, as well as enjoy the boost to their physical, emotional and mental wellbeing that playing music brings, played as a hobby or professionally. Please sign the petition and share with friends and family and play your part in helping our musicians survive and thrive.
