On March 20, the Trump Administration launched a cruel and illegal policy of "expelling" people seeking asylum at our southern border, under the pretext of public health concerns. Border agents have used this policy to turn away thousands of asylum seekers, including women and children traveling alone - leaving them stranded in dangerous conditions in Mexico or deporting them to the very dangers they have fled.

Women and children ask for asylum at our border after surviving unimaginable horrors. Rampant domestic violence - perpetrated with impunity in countries like El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras - forces women to flee for their lives and seek refuge in the United States, often arriving with nothing more than the clothes on their backs.

With COVID-19 stay-at-home orders driving a worldwide surge in domestic violence, now more than ever, it is critical that we offer protection to courageous women and children who are risking everything to find safety.
