In 2016 Officer Langley gave orders to Daniel Shaver in a La Quinta Inn hallway. Langley spewed aggressive and confusing orders at an intoxicated Shaver, confused him, and threatened to take Shaver’s life several times if he made any mistake. As Daniel Shaver crawled toward the Officers on his hands a knees and begged for his life, Officer Philip “Mitch” Brailsford shot him 5 times with his AR-15, which had “You’re F**cked” engraved on the dust cover, a statement that depicts Officer Philip Brailsford’s entire mindset as a cop. When the Officer was aquitted of 2nd Degree Murder charges, the Mesa Arizona Police Department took it upon themselves to rehire Philip Brailsford in 2019, and give him a disability leave for PTSD, and a $31,000/yr pension. As residents of Mesa, AZ, and as a nation of millions of people that demand officers of the law be held accountable and not receive special treatment, I am asking that the state, and federal government not only investigate the Mesa PD and chief of police Ken Cost, but also defund Philip Brailsford of his pension which is funded through our tax payer dollars. Tax payer dollars that can be used to better the communities, to better police deescalation procedures and training, dollars that can help build a better City of Mesa rather than pay the salary of a murderer. This was a man hired to protect and serve citizens, not murder them in cold blood for obeying his aggressive, and confusing commands. It is also asked that Langley be found after fleeing to the Philippines.
