Why this petition matters

Started by Sam Formicola

Latin Grammy Award winner, Angelica Pereira is one of the most valuable and diverse musicians in Oklahoma City. On Aug. 27, 2020, her EB1 Green Card Application was denied.  We strongly believe that she satisfied the necessary criteria for approval.  We are hoping that through an appeal, we might achieve an approval, which would grant her a Green Card to stay permanently in the United States.  While that appeal is processing, she must return to Colombia.  If the appeal is denied, she will not be able to return to the US and will lose all of her jobs and livelihood.

In addition to her Latin Grammy Award with the Orchestra of the Americas in 2015, she has also appeared on local television, played on several recordings and scored for films. Angelica also won the prestigious award of Most Outstanding Music Artist in 2016 by both the State of Oklahoma and the Hispanic Arts Council of Oklahoma.

Aside from Angelica’s countless accomplishments, she has given back to her community a priceless gift. She has been a music educator for the world-renown El Sistema, the well-respected, successful and unique after- school program serving over 200 underserved public school children in the heart of Oklahoma City. Her love and tireless efforts for these children are unparalleled. The successes throughout her tenure and the awards of her students are nothing short of phenomenal.

Angelica is a person of integrity, diligence and commitment. Her value and impact to our community as a musician is impossible to measure. She is a special person that adds unique qualities to our professional orchestra, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic via her skills and passion.  She has been a member for 11 years.  She is irreplaceable!
