Why this petition matters
WHEREAS: When families, communities and schools work together, students are more successful and the entire community benefits. (Source: US Department of Education). The haphazard decision to move public education to on-line learning model is putting children, parents, and the entire Camas community in a perilous situation, and
WHEREAS: In July the United States District Court agreed: “Governor Inslee does not, will not, and cannot enforce his Proclamations” (Seattle Times) regarding Covid 19. Inslee then admitted that all enforcement powers rest with other officials. The “other officials” are the various government agencies i.e. Health Department, Education Department etc. Covid guidelines are not laws—they are guidelines that leave much room for real collaboration between school district leadership, parents, and students with out fear of legal repercussions, and
WHEREAS: There are alternative ways to combat Covid 19. A one size fits all approach to combat a virus is not how science works, and it’s not how free societies and communities prosper. Three of the world’s top medical scientists from Stanford, Oxford, and Harvard have recommended an alternative road map that greatly considers the real negative consequences of children not physically attending school as well as offering sound science on natural “herd immunity” to combat all viruses. WHEREAS: The Center of Disease Control (CDC) Director Robert Redfield in a Buck Institute webinar in July said that suicides and drug overdoses have surpassed the death rate of Covid19 among high school students. Redfield argued that lockdowns and lack of public schooling constituted a disproportionally negative impact on young people’s mental health;
THEREFORE: I insist that our District Superintendent Jeff Snell work with Parents and Students to end on-line learning and support fully OPENING CAMAS SCHOOLS!
