Why this petition matters

Started by Safe Route Pirbright Brookwood

Safe Route Pirbright Brookwood seeks to make the pedestrian route connecting Brookwood, Pirbright, Pirbright Camp and Sheets Heath safer.

The junction joining Dawney Hill, Gole Road, Billesden Road and Connaught Road - sometimes called Pirbright Arch - forms part of a popular route used by school children, residents, parents of babies and toddlers, families and people exploring the local countryside.

Despite being the most direct route for many, which connects to schools, local nurseries, local shops, parks, walks, jogging routes, the canal and many beautiful countryside walks, there are currently many safety issues.

Help make our communities safer. Please share your views and experiences via our facebook page and show your support by signing this petition.

Current Safety Issues:

  1. To remain on a pavement you have to cross the road blind. The crossings are on a bend so there is no visibility of on-coming traffic.
  2. On the Brookwood side of the tunnel the pavement runs out. Pedestrians have to walk on the road with cars coming past.
  3. Inside the tunnel there is no barrier between pedestrians and vehicles.
  4. The tunnel is very dimly lit - currently only one light works
  5. The tunnel and pathways are very prone to flooding and mud.
  6. There is no way for cars to know if pedestrians including small children are inside the tunnel.
  7. There are no safe alternative routes.

Show your support and help us achieve:

  • A safer route for the all the communities.
  • Less congestion and traffic.
  • A positive impact for the environment.
  • Fewer parking issues.
