Why this petition matters

Started by Zaire Dela Cruz

Hi! I'm Zaire Dela Cruz, a student from Iloilo National High School - Senior High School. This campaign will be about banning the idea of producing more hostile architecture that affect both the landscape and the human that resides within.

Architecture is used to home people. But when it is used to disallow people from staying in or taking temporary shelter, it loses its meaning. Anti-Homeless Architecture is can be known as defensive architecture or hostile architecture. It is a form of architectural design to prevent or impede crime and help maintain order. The strategy uses the built environment to discourage malcontents from using public spaces for activities that they were not intended to be used for.

In this campaign we aim to ban the idea of designing architectures that bully or systematically force the homeless population out of the cities, creating false images of wealth and stability. This tactic is often used in cities to avoid accountability for their deeply rooted economic inequality. They create designs to prevent the homeless people from sleeping or living on public properties. These designs includes can include metal bars within benches, unnecessary sprinkler, random spikes and cement boulders that are often disguised as art, slanted/curved benches, armrests on benches, barred corners, rocky pavements etc. These make life harder and more dangerous for the homeless and rough sleepers. Parliament must ban anti-homeless architecture to protect the safety of rough sleepers.
